Where do these people come from?
The Book Lady, aka Caryn Caldwell, is one of the best reasons I know to live in modern times. She’s one of the friends I’ve met here in the blogosphere. Yes, we now hang out.
I have no idea what she looks like, but I know her humor, her sensitivity, and the fact that she has [...]

A moment of great pleasure and gratitude
I have spent the last few days following my poor old blind golden retriever around the back yard, serving as a kind of Seeing Eye Human. (Really, I ought to get me one of those little outfits that seeing eye dogs wear.) My job is to keep him from slamming into trees and from tripping [...]

Jordie gets better, tells vet he wants to come home
Yes, it’s true. You count a dog out, and he decides that he doesn’t care if the world is a slanty mess, and that he will have to walk tilted to the right for a while.
He has decided to get well.
And so we’ve been going to visit him every day, and each day he is [...]

The unbelievable sadness of a dog at the end of it all
We got him when he was nine months old. He had been destined to be a wonderful show dog, being the grandson of a proud Champion Golden Retriever, King of All the Dogs or something like that.
He was ready, too, to meet the bright lights and the big cities. But then x-rays showed [...]

Calling adolescent boys: Want to tell your story?
My friend Holly has a warm heart, a creative spirit, and a wonderful idea. She wants to write a book that allows young men to tell the world what life is REALLY like for them in this, the first part of the 21st century, a time when life can be a bit haphazard, confusing, and [...]

The tale of an earring…and one, possibly two, tiny little miracles
We have to take our miracles where we can find them, right? And with Barack Obama’s election being a whole huge miracle, I wasn’t expecting another one to show up quite so soon.
But then today came. I went to meet my friend, Mary Rose, for lunch at our favorite diner, O’Rourke’s, In Middletown. I was [...]

The world’s headlines about Barack Obama
Have you seen this?
People keep emailing it to me, which usually means that everyone in the universe has seen it already…but just in case you haven’t, and you’d like, say, just one more little case of the chills before we tuck this Election Fever away…go to this link and just watch as your computer unfolds [...]

The REAL change at the oil change place
It’s been an emotional day, this day after the election.
I’ve been the tiniest bit tired even through my happiness. Maybe it’s because I drank two glasses of wine and stayed up too late watching everything I could about the election numbers, just wanting to stay there and bask in it longer and longer. Some of [...]

At last–the election! And…um, it’s also my publication date!
Today–drum roll–it’s ELECTION DAY! And, oh by the way, KISSING GAMES OF THE WORLD is now officially available in stores.
The whole concept of a Publication Date is interesting. Before I ever had a book published, I imagined that Pub Date would be, like, the Best Day Ever. You know, along the lines of brass bands [...]
