I love it! I've never tried writing on a train -- haven't really spent much time on them at all, really. But hubs and I have been talking about a possible train trip in our future, so maybe I'll give it a try.

Bobby, why is this stuff never happening when *I'm* on the train? The most I ever see is people talking on their cell phones or writing on laptops! I would LOVE to read anything you have on this subject...euphemism or not! I'm sure it would be hilarious.

Nancy, those are the trains of my dreams. Tables, plug-ins and WiFi! I'd ride back and forth all year long. Think how productive we'd be, particularly if the WiFi ever broke. Thank you for writing!

I was just in Salt Lake City and rode their great new train called The Front Runner. It goes from where my sister lives in the northern suburbs to downtown Salt Lake -- and it has tables, plug-ins and WiFi! My daughter and I took the train to do touristy things with my sister and her family but what I really wanted to do was get on with my laptop and keep riding back and forth all day long. I said this to my sister -- but I don't think she got it. I know you do!

From a conductor:

I've been meaning to write about all the couples I've caught "in the act" on my late night trains. My blog, however:

http://bobbyderailed.blogspot.com

is rated PG, and there are only so many euphamisms I can use without sounding silly. Maybe I'll write under a pseudonym.

Becca, you are so right! When you're on an airplane, you're constantly having to do your bit to keep the plane upright, either through gripping the arm rests or actual bargaining with the higher powers. Trains don't ask as much of you.
Susan, NOTHING is worse than a nightmare train trip with a toddler, unless perhaps it's being on an airplane with one! I think one of the things that makes trains so lovely to write on is the scenery that is flashing past. And, yes, that IS such a romantic thing!

I always think of trains as being part of a romantic era. I can imagine that it would bring out the best in you.

Although the only time I've ever been on one was a nightmare trip with a toddler. I like to block that out and focus on the romantic thought though...

Train-writing sounds delightful, although I've never had the pleasure of trying it. I think there's much to be said for being stuck in a seat for a while. Flying should have the same effect, except it's so uncomfortable, and there's always that slight uneasiness about one's safety.

I'm glad you had a productive ride :)
