I just was listening to a tape on how American English evolved and there was a whole explanation of where "fixin' to" came from as an idiom. Which I have promptly forgotten. However, I can tell you where 'Y'all" came from. English doesn't differentiate between the second person singular and second person plural. Both are "you." But many African languages did. So many early black Americans added the "all" to the second person plural to make the distinction. Hey!
